http://www.vladtv.com - Ashanti opened up to VladTV about her thoughts on the recent police brutality cases in the U.S. and how no one in hip hop since 2Pac has been able to make a societal impact. The famed singer feels that a lot of people today don't feel strongly about things that don't directly affect them, and Ashanti says they seem more concerned with social media.

Speaking more about 2pac, Ashanti believes that he was "so far ahead" of his time, and adds that things would be much different if he were alive today.

Check out more of what she had to say in the above clip.

But Tupac was no fucking leader, he just had leadership potential but sadly
he was unfocused and lacked the leadership skills to carry it out! .....he
NEVER actually lead anything. He TALKED about it, had the means to do it
but he never took action. He didnt organize any protests, sit-ins,
boycotts, food drives, put his money behind politicians to change laws,
start any charitable organizations....Tupac was an actor, rapper and thats
where it stopped! ...he was no leader! He LEADERSHIP POTENTIAL.....Now
Chuck D, KRS-1, Immortal Technique, Dead Prez, Talib Kweli, even Lupe to an
extent are rappers that are ACTUAL LEADERS....I will even throw Diddy in
there because he campaigned and started the Rock The Vote movement......but
Tupac was no leader by any means.

I wouldn't say Tupac was the last. David Banner does his fair share going
to these detention centers trying to help troubled youths. He also has
somewhat of a movie out that he's done that's based on black culture (and
not that we shall overcome civil rights bullshit either). Talking about
GyeNyame, Osiris, Isis, and etc. But he flipped it into a superhero type of
movie. There are adults that are trying but I doubt you'll see a Young Thug
or Rich Homie Quan doing that. Only changes I see these new artists getting
involved is supporting homosexual propaganda wearing dresses and shit. J.
Cole kind of making an attempt to change through voicing his opinions in
interviews and his music, though.

Tupac was a one off. Rappers nowadays are under White sway. Jay Z ( is
corporate aka under rich white buisnessmen) won't speak about it. Kanye is
whiny bitch who's under white control. None of these guys could carry Pac's
jock. Pac was a militant, that's why he's loved to this day. It never felt
like he was a slave. Look at at Jay and Kanye and tell me they don't come
across as slaves to money. There will never be another 2pac in todays day
and age. Rappers are sellouts in the 00's and will continue to sell out
aslong as the money comes. They aren't Pac

Kanye stick up for US all the time but because of his choice of a wife,
because the clothes he wears, and because he doesn't really promote
negativity his message isn't really accepted. We need more than a voice. WE
need a cultural reboot. We need to change some of the shit we place
importance on or Hip Hop may lose it's credibility in having a voice.

We dont need to wait on One person. It's called go to the Polls, start
opening business, boycotting, and running for leadership. That changes
things, not waitin on Sharpton.
MrThekidisback (17 days ago)
Their are a few artist. Old Kanye (Not Kanye now) J.cole, Killer Mike and
David Banner are the only ones now.
Vanessa J. Hernández (17 days ago)

2pack just did a few songs about societal changes that's all, when he
wasn't doing those he was doing songs about drug taking, gang culture,
killing people and other stupid shit. Way too many people on his overrated
dick.

The days of a black leader are over. Blacks need to learn to do for self
instead of waiting for some type of "leader". And we've been moving
backwards since the start of the "civil rights movement" I'll put it like
this in 1837 the very first HBCU was established in america. Downtrodden
victims and slaves don't start college universities. Enough of this african
black power bs. We are not african we are americans our future is up to us
africa ain't going to save you nor will the white people make your life any
easier. Quit relying on leadership and start to rely on yourself and the
rest will follow.

Beautiful girl. Pac cared way too much and on top of that, his voice was
offensive. Anytime yo' message is too strong, they take you out. That's
just how it is. I know they couldn't wait to take him out. The other
brothas just didn't have the conviction and passion he had. I can name a
handful of Pac songs that send chills up and down my spine.

These comments make me crack up. Anyone who can't see that Tupac was one of
the GREATEST leaders in Hip Hop is fucking stupid and ignorant, plain and
simple. Nobody cares about J.Cole, David Banner, or anyone else in the last
20 years that has attempted to make social change. Because they didn't have
the passion for it like Tupac did. Tupac was raised by a Black Panther...He
grew up in poverty and struggle, and he didn't let his fame change his
views and goals. He was political in almost all of his songs, he attended
black power movements, he helped children in the ghetto, dedicated videos
and foundations for them and donated his time and money. He wrote beautiful
poetry, he was a successful actor and musician. But most of all he was a
passionate, powerful and inspirational human being.

There will never be someone like him in Hip Hop, ever. That opportunity is
long gone. This urban generation has fell too deep into the rabbit hole to
ever go back to the essence of the 1990s.

It's amazing how oblivious celebrities are to the ones who control who the
"chosen" leader (s) are and how they are manipulated by money and told to
keep everyone quiet. It would surely have to be someone apart of the Boule
tho--the fraternity th at encourages us to follow their blueprint to become
accepted in European society--and by European society I mean old - white
man traditions. Ashanti has been controlled since she was a child. She has
no idea what leadership is...ever heard of MK ULTRA. Well if you want to
meet someone who's been through it, she's sitting right on the screen. No
one in RAP is looking to benefit anyone. They can't afford to lose, and
plus their bound by some shit ppl can't even begin to understand.

2 Pac was a rapper that's it people overrate pac too much he didn't
actually change anything if anything shit got worse with all this thug life
being proud to be a criminal bullshit
Cj Blukooz (6 days ago)
I would love to see an artist like 2pac stand up and speak on some real
shit in todays world but I already know and honestly believe that in this
generation of Hip Hop an artist like that wouldn't go any where in there
career if they were to rap about these kind of problem that we are
currently going threw becuz most of the fucked up things that are going on
like police brutality are really only happening in black communities... and
lets be real.. todays Hip Hop is turning white to the point that a artist
has to have a white fan base in order to have major success.. and white
people don't really care about all that shit becuz there not going threw so
a rapper speaking on those topic will never be huge in this generation
of Hip Hop and for a message to really make an impact and force change then
it needs to come from somebody who is very successful that everybody will
listen too and with everything I just said I just don't see it happening...
But damn I really wish it would happen becuz we need a Malcolm X, Martin
Luther King or 2pac right now more then ever and Hip Hop has the power to
make a change.. but people don't want to her about all that BS they rather
live in the moment you know YOLO...
