The optical focusing systems are among the very best I have ever seen for 3 reasons:
1. Total Coverage
2. All 65 squares are cross type
3. 10 FPS
Put those three together and you have a machine gun of a sports shooting camera, and I have been very impressed so far.
This Focusing Tutorial is made for beginning and intermediate photographers to learn the 7Dii's focusing system as quickly as possible, and is just one lesson from my new training guide on the 7D2. Enjoy!
My Canon 7Dii Tutorial should be available for purchase on Dec 1, 2014.

I love the idea of this camera for wildlife and action with some of the
great Canon lenses, however I just can't get over the fact that Canon's 7D
II has inferior image quality to Nikon's entry level DSLRs (D3300). It's a
real hard pill to swallow for me, I don't know what Canon are even doing
anymore.
They don't improve their sensors and continue to shun mirrorless where
competitors have already made their entry-mid range DSLRs obsolete, this is
partly the case for Nikon too but at least Nikon use really good sensors, I
don't know why people still pay for Rebel cameras in 2014.

your way of teaching about this seems like you are adressing a first time
owner of a dslr, but do you really think they are the primary buyers of
this model? i believe a typical buyer of the 7D m II might already be
quite familiar to the common use

Very well done tutorial! I've had my 7D mark II for one week now and while
I generally understand focusing (or thought I did!) this new system is a
huge jump from my 60D. Canon's own tutorial videos are helpful but the way
they are edited means I usually have to stop, rewind, and watch again three
or four times to catch where the heck on the menu he is going when
explaining how to do something. You talk and show menu options at just the
right pace, for me anyways.

i realy like your videos, but what is with that grip? you look like a
beginer, first time holding a DSLR

Absolutely superb explanation of understanding the multitude of focus
modes, especially how to navigate from to the other.
I've been a long time 7D user, have just acquired the 7D Mk II, and prior
to this video I've been extremely frustrated trying to figure out what
Michael quite clearly explains here; the Canon manual (available online in
PDF) is borderline useless on HOW to use -- and as importantly, change the
modes.
THANK YOU Michael for your clear and superbly organized video; excellent
production all the way.

Your explanations are lucid, helpful & delivered at a laid back pace so the
viewers can follow. Really like your videos.
One Question: How does 7D Mark II compare to the 1D Mark IV in terms of
image quality, autofocus & ISO? Is it justifiable to move from 1dIV to 7dII
in order to have the new AF system & gain some reach?

Please share the link for canon 7d mark II crash course. I liked your

problem in focusing as i am a beginner. Thanks a ton for upload looking for
more. And please let me know how to control shutter speed and the role of

I picked this camera up a couple of days ago and found the manual did not
explain the setting functions very well at all & was therefor little help.
I was starting to wonder if i had purchased something a little out of my
comfort zone. I have to say that after watching your tutorial i feel so
much better. Wish there were more tutorials about the 7dMkII by you on the
Tube ,this "focus"lesson has helped no end. Thanks so much for the great
assistance and straight talk. I feel so much better about my decission.

Still waiting, unless I am missing something it seems as if your 7D Mark 2
video is still not available. I have a 7D Mark 2 coming tomorrow and am
looking forward to buying your video and getting started. Any idea when it
will be ready? Thank you.

What clusters, squares or modes would you use if you were shooting
landscapes with a wide angle lens and you want to try and get everything in
your view sharp? And aperture or f-stop? Thanks!!!

I've been shooting collegiate and high school sports with it now for
several weeks and am really happy with the camera. Could still use some
guidance with choosing the optimum Focus Cases (1-6) for the different
sports.
