Syma X5C Quadcopter with Camera review is here. After few of my fans requested, I went ahead to get it. It’s a great little Quadcopter that offers some video recording and still pictures taken during flight. Camera can be activated by radio control for video and still shots. That is a neat feature. 6 axis gyro offers great stability during flight and makes it a great little copter to learn to fly for beginners.

Plastic is very cheapish, and it uses old school gear motors that is noisy in some sense to record video. Camera is said to be HD but it records just 30fps 720P type video which definitely is not an HD so do not believe the lying manufacturer. Camera records low resolution pictures and videos which are good enough for a kid but not for some serious use.

All in all, it’s a neat little toy for people to learn to fly Quadcopter and have some fun taking low resolution pictures and videos.

Camera angle change Mod Diy on Syma X5C Quadcopter.

My thoughts:

1: Camera is OK for a 720p, but it's pointed way too far downward. But this is easily corrected by removing its mounting screws, and hot-gluing a shim in for a better view angle.

2: As it is now, with its camera installed, it really has a hard time when a breeze hits it, and can start wobbling erratically with wind or sharp maneuvers. However, remove the heavy camera and landing gear and it does become a sporty flyer as seen in this video.

3: In stock form, the range is not impressive at all with maximum advertised range of 50m. Because of its wind issue, it can easily be blown out of range. Also when it flies out of range, it will maintain the last control input for a couple seconds before the motors cut out. However, as seen in this video, the maximum range of the X5C can be greatly increased with this simple modification.

Overall assessment, because of #2 and #3, I foresee a lot of these ending up on neighbors roofs or in the trees. The X5C looks fantastic, and comes with a nice camera but a bad camera view angle. It has mediocre flight performance with the camera installed in anything other than hover or a windless day.

This is my Range Hack for a Syma X5C. After watching many videos and visiting forums this is what I have come up with. I hope it helps. I will be taking my Syma X5C out to a large open space tomorrow and going for an altitude test. I will post the videos on Sunday.

Modification to a Syma X5C Quadcopter to accept normal Lithium Ion (mobile phone Li+) Batteries.
Update 14.09.16. It's not working with Li+ batteries :( Not enough current. I'll leave this video posted so others can read the comments. Maybe somebody comes with an idea.

As promised this is AN altitude test video with the modification that I posted previously. I think is is a great improvement on the stock Arial. I now know my maximum range by sight and what not now to exceed.

Hoy les tenemos el desempaquetado e impresiones de vuelo del cuadricoptero Syma X5C, un cuadricoptero que incluye una cámara en HD el cual nos proporcionara una vista aérea de calidad, el Syma X5C Explorers no es ni grande n chico, aquí estamos frente a un cuadricoptero mediano, nosotros lo hemos conseguido por medio de la compañía banggood y su precio es de $64.99 dólares.
El producto es bien completo, incluye hélices de respuesta, batería, cargador, control remoto, USB para poder agregar la tarjeta SD y ver el contenido grabado, una cámara en HD y protectores para las hélices.
Luego de hacer el video desempaquetado he estado probando el cuadricoptero por varios días, y la verdad que me ha gustado mucho, ahora, he visto que el Syma X5C con los protectores de la hélices pierde un poco de control cuando estamos en exteriores con viento cosa que sin ellos las cosas cambian, el vuelo es estable y fácil de controlar, la verdad que muy divertido.
La cámara es en HD y luego de haber probado varios cuadricopteros el Syma X5C es una de las mejores, las imágenes que te va a proporcionar son mas nítidas y claras y otra diferencia es el hecho que cuenta con micrófono para capturar también el sonido. El rango de distancia entre el cuadricoptero y el control es de unos 50 metros y el tiempo de vuelo es aproximadamente 7 minutos y la carga es de unos 50 minutos, recomendamos que en este caso adquieran una batería adicional o dos en caso quieran pasar mas tiempo entreteniéndose.
Otro punto a favor es el material utilizado en el cuadricoptero Syma X5X Explorers, el cual es de plástico duro otorgando mayor resistencia protegiéndolo de caídas, por ejemplo a nosotros se nos precipitó desde una altura de 20 metros y no le pasó nada.

This is my review of the Syma X5C Explorers quadcopter. This quad can take multiple forms, in a way. It has optional prop guards, landing legs, and camera. If you fly with all the accessories, it can get a bit unstable in fast flying, but works well for aerial videography and prop protection. If you trim it down to its lightest form, with no prop guards, landing feet, or camera, it can fly "sporty" quite well, and even do flips. Overall this is a good stable quad, but you have to make sure to fly it in the proper manner for the attachments you have on it.

This quad is equipped with a camera but I wouldn't recommend it to anybody for that purpose. It is very light and easily tossed around by the wind and owner. It handles very well and has a flip function that I didn't use because it's disabled by having the camera installed.

So what is this skimmer?

Decided to try the damper as shown at http://youtu.be/PuNhiJAVum0 and was pleasantly surprised how well it worked! In literally 10 minutes I was able to gather and assemble this low cost fix to the old "jello issue". I may have to do another version though as I may have tightened the zip straps too much as there is still a slight jello effect but not as much as my 1st method which used a sponge damper.

As stated in my video, the use of the Mobius over the stock camera has been great for improved video quality - which unfortunately is held to 720P due to an older Mac that I use for editing which uses iMovie '09 software. The increased weight of the Mobius however has definitely limited the actual flight time - all the way down to 2 mins 30 seconds. After that, the unit doesn't have enough power to maintain the extra 33 grams of weight - even with the prop guards and landing gear off. As well, you pretty much have to go "full throttle" right off the bat just to get the quad off the ground and don't even think about using it in any type of wind or you're going to crash hard...trust me!
